Brutalistischer Sessel + Hocker aus Eiche // Brutalist lounge chair with ottoman by Tage Poulsen

Dimensions lounge chair: approx. 87 × 85 × 75 cm
(34.3" × 33.5" × 29.5") Width × Depth × Height
Dimensions ottoman: approx. 68 × 73 × 40 cm
(26.8" × 28.7" × 15.7") Width × Depth × Height
Rare lounge chair with matching ottoman, designed by Tage Poulsen in Denmark. The Danish architect, furniture designer and artist is known for his distinctive, powerful designs in solid wood, today associated with Scandinavian Brutalism. Lounge chairs with their original ottoman by this designer rarely appear on the vintage market.
The frames are crafted from solid oak and follow a clear, additive construction principle: the armrests are made of horizontal boards, the supporting structure of vertical boards, while the backrest is formed by upright slats. The result is a powerful, architectural design language in which every component remains visible and contributes to the overall effect – finely crafted, yet deliberately archaic in form.
The loose seat and back cushions are made of thick, reddish-brown leather. Generously filled with foam, they offer outstanding comfort, while the warm leather creates a beautiful contrast to the light oak. The ottoman cushion also rests loosely on the frame, so the stool can be used flexibly as a footrest or as additional seating – together with the chair, it makes the perfect reading corner.
We also have a second, identical lounge chair and the matching large coffee table from the same Tage Poulsen series – built entirely without screws from solid oak, with a folding top and storage space. In separate listings, the pieces are also offered as a complete set – a rare opportunity to acquire a full seating group by this designer.
Condition: Beautiful vintage condition – sturdy oak frames with only minimal age-related wear, leather cushions with a lovely natural patina. A rare piece of Danish craftsmanship for exceptional interiors.
